Orb of Fantasea Remake
Orb of Fantasea Remake is a Minigolf-like game that uses elements from Role-Playing Games, such as an open world, puzzles, and combat. Instead of having holes to go to score, there is an island to explore, monsters to fight in a billiards-like fashion, and artifacts to obtain.
The game starts with you, a thief, attempting to steal from a King and failing in a grandiose manner, landing yourself in a jail cell. But in the morning, the King offers you a choice, to stay here and accept your punishment for stealing from the King of the land, or to go on a dangerous quest to obtain a relic lost to the ages, The Orb of Fantasea. A recent discovery was that the island we live on was also the island an infamous band of Pirates claimed as their own. The adventure will be dangerous and rewarding as the King has offered to clear your name as thanks and to give you a small treasure to make yourself an honest living.
- Movement in the way of the invisible cue stick in billiards or mini-golf in similar games.
- Tricky landscapes and holes
- Settings to make it feel better
Many of these have already started but are in their infant stages and can wait while the Alpha gets feedback on controls.
- Player and enemy stats
- Inventory system and management
- Equipment that affects stats and abilities
- NPC interactions from an accidental bump to a full-on mugging!
- Procedurally generated battlefields with hazards, walls, and other interactives.
- Puzzles and challenges for the player to move forward, referencing early PS2 games for their complexity or unique styles.
- A story in which the player can make choices that will impact the game and how the world sees the player.
This game is currently in Alpha, meaning a lot will change. As it is in Alpha, the main element I was focused on was movement, so the Alpha is a playable mini-golf course of 9 holes. The mini-game will make its way to the full game but I thought this would be a great way to get some input from gamers on how it feels.
My goal with this game is to have the whole island feel like its own little world. From having its own history and trade to its own hazards and dangers such as monsters and traps. The combat will eventually be like Billiards where the goal is to either damage the other entities on the board with a well-planned strike or to strategize with placement and use the environment or hazards to your benefit.
